I'm Ian and this is my blog for the games I make. I'm a junior at the University of Michigan, and I'm hoping to get into game design once I'm out in the real world. I'll be posting my process and work for my games here, along with some other interesting games.
So I’m going to do a horror game sprint starting next Friday so that’s super exciting! It’s called Asylum Jam and it’s in protest to the horror trope of mental illnesses. It’s cool stuff! And this is what I think mine will look like!
Check out my classmate's sweet board game! It's really fun - basically rock/paper/scissors plus chess. Each player organizes their rock paper and scissors pieces strategically instead of in a set formation and the game proceeds much like chess, but with the rock beats scissors etc. rule instead of any piece can take any piece. The last player standing wins.
So like I said, Showdown is super fun - I played a round with two different people and we all thought it was an excellent game. The rules are really easy to pick up and totally intuitive, and it looks really good to boot. I think if I was to have any criticism of the game, it’d be that there ought to be a box and maybe a more substantial board. And maybe a rule for getting a piece to the other side of the board - since we were all familiar with chess, we were wondering if anything was supposed to happen, and if not, whether it should be mentioned that nothing happens.
